Is It Possible To Get Chlamydia From A Toilet Seat

Why is pneumonia so dangerous? – Eve Gaus and Vanessa Ruiz

Chlamydia trachomatis, the bacteria that causes chlamydia infection, cannot survive outside the human body. Thus, you cannot get chlamydia from a toilet seat. Chlamydia can also not be transmitted through other means of casual contact, such as hugging, kissing, or by sharing towels, bed linen, swimming pools, or cutlery.

Some people are concerned about what will happen if they come in contact with a fresh droplet of the body fluid containing chlamydia left on a towel, bed linen, or toilet seat. However, merely coming in contact with the droplet just because it touched your skin or buttocks is not sufficient for you to get the infection. The bacteria need to come in contact with a suitable body tissue such as the cervix, urethra, or cornea of the eye to survive.

When Will The Signs And Symptoms Go Away

You should notice an improvement quite quickly after having treatment.

  • Discharge or pain when you urinate should improve within a week.
  • Bleeding between periods or heavier periods should improve by your next period.
  • Pelvic pain and pain in the testicles should start to improve quickly but may take up to two weeks to go away.

If you have pelvic pain or painful sex that doesnt improve, see your doctor or nurse as it may be necessary to have some further treatment or investigate other possible causes of the pain.

  • Can Chlamydia Go Away On Its Own? Center
  • It is highly unlikely for chlamydia to go away on its own. Although the symptoms may subside temporarily, the infection may persist in the body in the absence of treatment . It is important to seek diagnosis and timely treatment to get rid of the infection.

If treatment is not sought, chlamydia can lead to the following serious complications:

    • Pelvic inflammatory diseases or PID
    • Fitz-Hugh-Curtis Syndrome
    • Untreated chlamydia in pregnant women can cause serious consequences such as preterm delivery , ophthalmia neonatorum , and pneumonia in the newborn.
    • Reactive arthritis may develop in men and women following chlamydia infection.
    • Men have less symptoms linked to chlamydia compared with women. Chlamydia infection can sometimes lead to epididymitis , causing pain and fever. Rarely, chlamydia can cause infertility in men.

How To Know If You Have An Std

Plain and simple: Getting tested is the only way to know for sure. Again, the majority of STIs are completely symptom-free. And, unfortunately, even when you feel like something is off, those symptoms are often subtle and can be easily explained away by other common issues such as a yeast infection, bacterial vaginosis, or a urinary tract infection , says Dr. Ross.

“You can’t rely on symptoms to tell you if you have an infection. Only getting a full STI screening done by your doctor can tell you if you have an infection,” notes Dr. Ross. But trust, the whole shebang is pretty quick and painless. “It usually involves some combination of peeing in a cup or getting your blood drawn or cultures taken,” says Michael Ingber, M.D., a board-certified urologist and female pelvic medicine specialist with the Center for Specialized Women’s Health in New Jersey.

    What Is An Std Anyway

Called both STDs and STIssexually transmitted infectionsare infections that are acquired through sexual contact. No, that doesnt mean just P-in-V. Hand stuff, oral sex, kissing, and even skivvy-free bumping and grinding can put you at risk. Oh, and lets not leave out the sharing of pleasure products such as toys .

Note: Many professionals are steering toward the new language of STI because the word disease means its a condition that impairs normal functioning and is typically manifested by distinguishing signs and symptoms, according to Merriam Webster. However, many of these such infections dont have symptoms and dont impair functioning in any way, hence the label of STI. That said, many people still know of and refer to them as STDs.

Generally speaking, STDs fall into a few main categories:

    • Bacterial STDs: gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis
    • Parasitic STDs: trichomoniasis
    • Viral STDs: herpes, HPV, HIV, and Hepatitis B
    • Theres also scabies and pubic lice, which are caused by lice and mites, respectively

Because some STDs are spread via skin-to-skin contact and others are spread through bodily fluids, transmission is possible any time fluids are swapped or skin is touched. So, if youre wondering: Can I get an STD without having sex? The answer is yes.

Chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and trichomoniasis can all be treated, and often cured, with antibiotics. While its important that you find treatment for your STD, having your STD treated is not a guarantee that it will never come back. You have to use your medication as directed, and you also have to be careful about prevention so you wont get re-infected.

Confessions of Frustrated wife on How She Discovered Herbal Antibiotics ...

Theres no significant difference in the amount of time it takes for chlamydia symptoms to show up for people with penises as compared to people with vulvas.

The only major difference in the time it takes for symptoms to show up among people of various sexes may be related to how often symptoms show up.

According to the Childrens National Health System, 90 percent of people with vulvas dont ever experience any physical symptoms, while 70 percent of people with penises never notice any symptoms.

This difference in who actually experiences symptoms between these two groups may have some effect on how long it takes for symptoms show up. But theres never been any definitive link between your sex and when your symptoms appear.

    How To Treat An Std

The bad news: If you’re wondering how to treat an STD at home, the answer is that you usually can’t.

Some good news: If caught early enough, bacterial and parasitic STDs can be completed cured by antibiotics. “Gonorrhea and chlamydia are often treated with common antibiotics like doxycycline or azithromycin, and syphilis is treated with penicillin,” says Dr. Ingber. Trichomoniasis is cured with either metronidazole or tinidazole. So, yes, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trich can all go away, as long as you get treated.

Viral STDs are a little different. In almost all cases, “once someone has a viral STD, that virus stays inside the body forever,” says Dr. Ross. Meaning, they cannot be cured. But don’t freak out: “The symptoms can totally be managed,” she adds. What that management entails varies from infection to infection.

People with herpes can take an antiviral medication every day to prevent an outbreak, or at the onset of symptoms. People with HIV or Hepatitis B can take antiretrovirals, which reduce the infection’s viral load, stopping the virus from replicating in the body and thus preventing it from doing further damage to the body.

So, can STDs go away on their own? With the exception of HPV , the general consensus is no. Some STDs can “go away” with proper medication. Other STDs can’t “go away,” but can be managed with proper treatment and/or medication.

What Can You Do To Relieve Your Symptoms

No home remedy for chlamydia can replace antibiotics. Chlamydia is a bacterial infection, so you need to take antibiotics to cure it.

However, there are a few ways you can soothe symptoms while you wait for the antibiotics to get to work. For example:

    • Use pain medications, such as ibuprofen to reduce pain
    • Use a cold pack to soothe inflammation.
    • A herb called goldenseal might reduce inflammation and other symptoms.
    • Use an echinacea supplement aid your immune system.

Remember that these home remedies might soothe the symptoms of chlamydia, but they dont actually cure chlamydia in itself. The best way to soothe the symptoms is to use antibiotics.

    Gonorrhea Trichomoniasis And Chlamydia

If left undiagnosed and untreated, eventually, any symptoms of gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, and chlamydia that were present will go away…but that doesn’t mean the infection does, says Dr. Ingber. Instead, the infection can travel to other organs such as the fallopian tubes, ovaries, or uterus, and cause something called pelvic inflammatory disease . It takes about a year for the initial infection to develop into PID, and PID can lead to scarring and even infertility, he notes. So as long as you’re getting tested regularly, you should be able to avoid any of these developing into PID.

    Rules For Successful Treatment

    Chlamydia Treatment & Success

The patient should make sure that the doctor is informed if the patient is pregnant or has any allergies. These conditions influence the choice of the medicine prescribed. No matter which antibiotic the patient takes treating chlamydia the following points should be remembered:

    • The treatment of all partners on the infected person is obligatory
    • Abstain from sex contacts during the treatment and until the negative result on chlamydia test is received
    • It is unadvisable to interrupt the course of antibiotics treatment as it will result in the necessity to start again from the beginning. Although the symptoms may disappear, the infection may still remain in the body
    • It is necessary to get tested after 34 months after the end of the treatment to make sure the infection is no longer in the body.
