What Does The Chlamydia Test Involve
The recommended tests for chlamydia are simple, painless and generally very reliable.
They involve sending a sample of cells to a laboratory for analysis. You dont necessarily have to be examined by a doctor or nurse first and can often collect the sample yourself.
There are two main ways the sample can be collected:
- urinating into a container this should ideally be done at least 1 hour after you last urinated
The results will normally be available in 7 to 10 days. If theres a high chance you have chlamydia for example, you have symptoms of the infection or your partner has been diagnosed with it and youve had unprotected sex with them you might start treatment before you get your results.

Testing Before The Incubation Period
Every STD test has an advised date from which a test becomes accurate. This is because the bacteria needs enough time to multiply within your body in order for it to reach a detectable level when taking a chlamydia test. For chlamydia this is often 14 days. If you test before that 14 days is over, you may test negative, but you could still pass the bacteria on following your test.

If you get two different results from two different tests, what should you do? The answer depends largely on the type of STI involved.
If the condition is easily treated, and the treatment doesn’t have any serious side effects, then you may decide to take the treatment.
Two such examples are chlamydia and gonorrhea, which are sometimes treated presumptively. This means treatment is given if there’s a chance the person may be infected. For example, sexual partners of a person who tests positive may be treated without being tested themselves.
However, if treatment is costly or poses certain harms, then additional tests may be ordered to confirm the results. Such is the case with HIV tests, which require a confirmatory test to accurately diagnose the virus. When a confirmatory test is used, HIV tests are rarely ever wrong.

Ten new fair-quality diagnostic accuracy studies reporting test characteristics of FDA-cleared NAATs met inclusion criteria, including six for gonorrhea and eight for chlamydia. Most studies evaluated the performance characteristics of NAATs compared with culture or expanded reference standards in asymptomatic persons in high prevalence settings. What Kind Of Discharge Can You Get From A Std
It might be white and thick or clear and watery, depending on the underlying cause. While penile discharge is a common symptom of many sexually transmitted diseases , including gonorrhea and chlamydia, other things can cause it as well.
Although any STD tests can be false negative there are predominantly two such diseases where there is a greater chance of having a false negative reason. Which STD test results are more likely to be False Negative? Although chances of false negative STD test results are very rare, they do happen.
What happens is when you test for Gonorrhea within the 7 days of contraction, the test result may appear negative. As Gonorrhea is an asymptomatic disease, its testing during its incubation period can result in false negative test result.
