When And How Will You Get Your Results
We send results by text message within 10 days after we receive the samples, often sooner. If you have not heard back from us after 14 wdays, please call your local service.
You will receive one of two messages:
Your test results are all negative. This means that we did not find any infections. Visit http://tinyurl.com/jspy5kp to find out how to reduce your risk
If you receive the second message, this does not necessarily mean you have an STI. Sometimes we need to repeat the tests or ask a couple of questions before we can confirm the results. However, it is important that you call us as soon as you can.
Reactive results: Occasionally low level reactive results occur, which may be classed as a non-specific positive. If your test result is reactive you will be invited to attend one of our clinics for a confirmatory blood test which will then reveal a negative result or confirm a positive.
What Do The Results Mean
A positive result means you have been infected with chlamydia. The infection requires treatment with antibiotics. Your health care provider will give you instructions on how to take your medicine. Be sure to take all the required doses. In addition, let your sexual partner know you tested positive for chlamydia, so he or she can be tested and treated promptly.

How To Choose The Right Test For You
With dozens of at-home testing kits available, it can be hard to choose the right test. After all, what does a good at-home STD testing kit look like? What should it entail? What do you need?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Your needs will vary, depending on your situation and circumstances. Whats more, they may change over time.
Use this chart to help determine which test is right for you.
You should also make sure a test is approved by the Food and Drug Administration . To determine if a product is FDA approved, check the FDAs website.
How Accurate Are At
Most at-home tests are processed at certified laboratories, so as long as your sample was collected and preserved correctly until it was processed and then analysed at a CLIA-certified laboratory, your at-home test results should be comparable to what you would receive otherwise.
A 2015 review looked at 2,100 studies comparing the sensitivity and specificity of at-home vs. physician ordered chlamydia and gonorrhea tests. Sensitivity refers to a testâs ability to determine a positive result and specificity refers to the tests ability to determine a negative result. The study determined that the tests had sufficient sensitivity and specificity.
The quality of the lab results depend mainly on the quality of sample collection. The likelihood of a contaminated or unusable sample is higher in home-collection compared to physician collected samples.

When Should I Test And Retest
Even if you suspect recent sexual activity might have exposed you to infection, these diseases have different incubation periods and window periods. Timing your test with these in mind will help you get the most accurate results.
- An incubation period is the time between infection and when symptoms begin.
- Window periods are the time between the initial infection and when a test will produce a positive result.
Window periods are the most important consideration when it comes to testing and transmission to others. You can get an accurate test result for some STDs if you take the test a week after a particular sexual encounter, but other STDs require more time before your test will be useful.
Its also important for some STDs to perform confirmation tests and retest after treatment to make sure your course of treatment successfully clears away the infection.
The chart below outlines minimum window periods for common STDs and indicates which ones require a retest after treatment. Some testing methods may detect infections before others, but that increased speed often comes at the expense of accuracy. You should follow these guidelines and take the best test you can find.

What Happens If My Results Come Back Positive
If your results are negative, it doesnt necessarily mean youre STD-free. Incubation periods vary for STDs. If youve recently been exposed, it may mean that the STD cant be detected yet. This is one reason why its essential to test for STDs regularly.
Companies remind patients that tests provide information and education they do not diagnose or treat medical conditions. Tests shouldnt replace a consultation with a healthcare provider. We recommend that you share your results with your doctor to obtain medical advice and treatment.
Most STDs are treatable, and some of the most common ones are curable. The purpose of STD testing is to identify infections so that you can receive treatment.
For certain infections like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trich the physicians at LetsGetChecked, myLAB Box, and STDcheck can potentially prescribe medication for you immediately, which you could pick up at your local pharmacy. LetsGetchecked takes this a step further by shipping free medication directly to you.
However you acquire medication to treat an infection, be sure to follow its course exactly and get retested if necessary to confirm whether the treatment was effective.

Are Test Results Accurate
Nucleic acid amplification testing is considered by experts to be the gold standard for chlamydia testing. Research suggests that self-collected samples generally provide accurate results that are comparable to results from samples collected by medical professionals.
Although not specific to at-home tests, results of chlamydia testing can be affected by:
- Taking certain antibiotics within a few days prior to testing
- Urinating within one hour of collecting a urine sample
- Vaginal douching within 24 hours of sample collection
- Mistakes in sample collection
Doctors are an important resource for patients with questions or concerns about the accuracy of at-home chlamydia testing. You may also find it helpful to contact the companies providing at-home testing to ask if their test kits and laboratory methods have been studied for accuracy. If a sample is required to be sent to a laboratory, check to see if the lab is CLIA-certified and/or CAP-accredited, as these measures indicate a laboratory has met standards for quality assurance.
Is It Possible For An Sti To Lay Dormant In The Body Before Presenting Later On
Before we answer this question, lets talk about the word dormant real quick. Most doctors dont use it anymore, according to Gersh.
The concept of a dormant STI isnt helpful, she says. Its predicated on the idea that you can have an STI that just isnt doing anything in your body.
The words doctors like to use instead are asymptomatic or latent.
An asymptomatic STI occurs when someone isnt currently experiencing symptoms that they can feel, see, or smell. According to the World Health Organization , the majority of STIs are asymptomatic.
Its possible to have an STI, not be experiencing symptoms, and still transmit it to someone else, Gersh explains.
Its also possible to have an STI, not be experiencing symptoms that you can feel or see, and still have it be doing something to your body, she says.
For example, someone can have human papillomavirus , not be experiencing any symptoms, but still have the cellular makeup of their cervix altered by the virus.
You can also have an STI, not be experiencing symptoms now, but begin experiencing symptoms later.
An STI cannot be detected by an STI test immediately after exposure.
The STI cant be detected because it hasnt been in the body long enough for the body to develop antibodies in response to it, which is what most STI tests are looking for.
is that most sexually active people get tested at least once a year.
But as Gersh says, Its good practice to get STI tested before every new partner.
